The Markhor - A Species of Wild Goat That Is Native to Central Asia, Karakoram and the Himalayas
The name “Markhor” is thought to have been derived from two Persian words, “mar,” meaning snake, and “kho,r” meaning eater. This could have been either because of the goats ability to kill snakes, or its horns which could be representative of a curling snake. Today, the markhor, the national animal of Pakistan, is listed as endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
